Holistic Therapy & Social Prescribing Barrow Together PCN

Social Prescribers recognise that health is influenced by more than medical factors and provide personalised support that helps patients build confidence, improve wellbeing, and take greater control of their lives.

However, the cost of some interventions can create barriers, preventing people from accessing valuable support.

Holistic therapies, such as a massage, can help reduce anxiety, improve sleep, boost confidence, and promote self-management, supporting the wider goals of social prescribing and reducing pressure on clinical services.

Barrow Together PCN has put this into practice by funding a set number of holistic therapy sessions for patients referred to their Social Prescribing team. Following treatment, patients are given a pack to guide them on how to continue the practices at home.

The impact has been clear: patient feedback has highlighted meaningful improvements and the provision has run successfully for 4 years and has been beneficial for those patients who struggle with their mental health and low mood.

Here is some patient feedback:

"Bea is so lovely and knowledgeable and I felt completely relaxed throughout the whole treatment.  The treatment has highlighted some problem area's which now gives me an opportunity to address"

"I feel so much lighter after the session, when I leave, I feel like I can do anything, I just haven't got the worry"

"I enjoy the sessions because they really help me to relax which is something I can struggle with"
